Monthly Reflection: Seven of Wands & The Hierophant

March Reflection: Seven of Wands

If you’ve been following along with this year’s monthly reflections, you’ll know that, at the start of the month, we pulled the Seven of Cups for the outlook of the month ahead. (If you want to re-read it, you can here.) At the end of the month, we see another seven in our reflection!

We began the month with the potential for distractions, but the Seven of Wands indicates we’ve handled those distractions rather well. These distractions came to knock us off our path, and we said, “No, thank you!”

March might have felt like a bit of a testing month, but you made it to the end, and that’s what matters. Remember that Seven of Cups - all of those things you encountered were distraction. You’ve held firm in your goals through March, and as we enter into April, we are encouraged to continue along this path.

How much did you cram into March, and how quickly did it pass you by? There is a speed and intensity to the Wands cards, and this comes across very strongly in the image, which is compounded by the fact that the 7s bookended the month (which is the number of The Chariot, the card of intense forward-movement). The month may have felt like a whirlwind of action, some of it taking you further away from your goals and some of it actively work to keep you on track. Personally, this feels rather on the nose. I can’t believe how quickly the month has gone and yet, when I reflect back on what has happened this month, I can’t believe how much has happened!

If you look very closely, the wind almost seems to be pushing the figure forward. This is a reminder that the more aligned we are with our goals, through making them a priority and avoiding distraction, the universe will help us sustain that momentum, propelling us towards success, towards fulfilment, towards happiness.

Feel proud of yourself today. March may not have been easy, but you made it, and you’re still on track. Keep going!

April Outlook: The Hierophant

With the cards we’ve seen recently, it appears many of us are on a mission of sorts. If you’re reading this, whatever it is you’re working towards, whether tangible or intangible, appears to be in great alignment with your dreams and is a favourable path towards fulfilment and greater meaning in your life.

And so, as we enter into the month of April, The Hierophant can be both friend and foe to our goals. There are several different ways we might experience this energy…

Gatekeeping

At a glance, we can see the figure in the image holding two scrolls. These are being held close to the chest by their arm. The word that comes to mind when I see this is ‘gatekeeping’. You’re certainly on a journey, in pursuit of your goals and dreams, but there is the possibility that not everyone will want you to succeed in this.

In particular, this could come in the form of people that appear to be, or actually are, in a position of wisdom and experience, relative to where you are on your journey.

If you encounter roadblocks this month, especially in the form of others who you think ‘know better’ than you do, it’s important to really evaluate what the intentions behind this really are. Some people are afraid of losing their power or sense of superiority. Some people don’t want change. Some people think they know better when they actually don’t. And some people just want to control you.

Notice that all of these things are not about you, rather, they are about the other person. The perceived wise one. Knowledge is power, and the problem is that humans handle power notoriously badly…

Remember that universal assistance, guiding you on your way, propelling you forward, holding your momentum. You are being urged to continue on your journey, and to see any gatekeeping this month for what it is.

Asking For Help

But The Hierophant isn’t all bad. When we meet someone with true wisdom that they are willing to share, they can be pivotal to our journey. If you are chasing goals and dreams that are beyond your current knowledge, if you are entering into uncharted territory, you need a guide.

Essentially, this card is a reminder that you can’t do it all alone. If you feel a little out of your depth, or unsure of your next step, don’t be afraid to consult someone who knows better. It’s not a weakness or a failure. In fact, it’s the wisest thing you could do. True success is not made by one person. Consider that even a self-made entrepreneur will need to, at some point, employ someone with the expertise required to scale their project, especially if their goal is expansion. They’ll also need to employ people to do the things they don’t have time to, as demand increases.

True success takes a village, a network of people who are willing to help you on your journey. It may not be quite as literal as the example I’ve given above, but how could you benefit from the help of others this month? Don’t be afraid to ask.

Pay It Forward

Even if you do feel like you have further to go and more to learn, what wisdom have you already gained? What expertise do you already possess? What are you already capable of ‘paying forward’? Perhaps there is an opportunity to step up this month and embody The Hierophant yourself. Stepping into a position of wisdom, expertise and leadership can feel intimidating and scary. Our impostor syndrome gets the better of us and we ask, “Who am I to speak on this, to advise on this?” But all wisdom evolves over time, and there will always be someone who knows less than you do.

Perhaps you know more than you think you do. Maybe you’re being too hard on yourself.

Reflect back on the past month, perhaps even further if it’s a journey you’ve been on for a while. Consider all that you’ve accomplished so far. Even if you have further to go, all of the experience you’ve gained has taught you a lot. Perhaps there’s someone at the start of the journey, just like you were, that would benefit from the expertise you have to share.

Whatever form The Hierophant takes in your life this month, this message reminds us of the importance of people - the ways they can influence our own lives, both for better and worse, but also the impact we can have, no matter who we are or how much experience we have. We can all be The Hierophant, and we can all benefit from his wisdom.

Did this message resonate with you? Are you on a journey, in pursuit of your dreams or a particular goal? Do you have a different perspective on these two cards? Let me know in the comments below!

Have a wonderful month ahead.

One seemingly ordinary day back in 2016, while I was working in a small suburban bar, a random acquaintance handed me a tarot deck through a moment of sheer synchronicity and changed my life forever. Being a tarot reader wasn’t something I thought would be in the cards for me (pun unintended, hehe) yet here I am, years later, these cards having completely altered the course of my life.

Since that moment, I have done hundreds of readings for other people. Friends and family, complete strangers, sceptics and non-sceptics, in-person and across the internet, in the UK and across the world. I never cease to be astounded by the wisdom contained in those 78 cards. These cards are so much more than a predictive tool. These cards light the way forward for us to create our own future, help us as we navigate life’s ups and downs. This is what I strive to do for you when doing your reading.
